Best of HP Slash

About:

The Best of HP Slash is a community dedicated to finding only the best completed Slash HP fics of any pairings. Primarily Novel-length fics with a couple of shorter fics of the best quality possible. Only fics that have been excessively reviewed and have been read and loved by every member of the team will be linked here. The reason for this being, that we want the fics here to be to the liking of many different people with many different tastes. I, for one, am tired of coming across a fic that comes highly reccommended and finding that I don't like it at all. So, in effort to prevent that (the key word being 'effort'), every fic here is read and reread by every member of our team. The fic must be approved by Seven of our Eight team members to be posted here.

When chosing fics, close attention is paid to grammar, characterization, plot flow, believability, among other things. Which is not to say that if Draco isn't EXACTLY the way he was in the book, the fic will be disregarded completely; or that we'll pass over a fic with a couple grammar mistakes - only a couple - no more than that.

How are fics chosen? Our team members have each compiled a list of what they believe to be the best of the best fanfiction out there. We then combined the lists into one 'superlist' and each of the members read all of the fics (that they hadn't read already) on the list. Then we gathered around the conference room at the far ends of the world ~~wide web~~ and decisions were made. If a fic on the list was liked by seven of the eight in the group, an email was to be sent to the author to ask permission to link to the fic.

As of now, only mods have posting access. After the all of the Best Of lists are up, posting access will be granted to the authors found on the lists, so that, if they choose to, they may post their WIP's here. Navigation for the Best Of lists will always be at the bottom of this profile, and there will be a Navigation Post later as well, so that readers can always find them.

If you're not on the best of lists, and you think you should be, Feel free to let us know here. However, there is a possibility that your fic will be turned down. We can't guarantee that your fic will make the list but we will read all of the recs (self recced or others) posted on the thread. If you ARE on the Best Of Lists and still don't have posting access, contact me. All my contact info is listed on my userinfo page, or you can comment on any of the posts here, or, my journal, if all else fails.

We can't lie...we tried, but we can't. We do it too

We try to read a broad range of fics, however (even though we started with 8 on the team) none of us had any fluff, incest, noncon, or dirtier kinks (scat, golden showers) on our lists and fics including these things aren't included here.

We're also grammar junkies. We love a fic that's easy to read - flows well, has a lovely voice to back it up. We can't stand fics that are literally unbelievable. Ex: Beginning of chapter. Draco: I hate you, I wouldn't piss on you were you on fire. End of Chapter...Draco: I was just kidding, apparently, I love you. Thin line and all that, funny how this works.

We like IC characters and we'll go on and on about a fic if it made a seemingly impossible pairing like Neville/Snape work while keeping them both mostly in character. We'll be amazed and we'll cry and we'll shout how much we love this author to the ends of the world.

None of us actually like the Neville/Snape pairing, or many of the pairing listed in the interests. When we see these seemingly impossible pairings we think things like 'That's impossible, this is going to be crap'. But we read these impossible pairing fics anyway and have been proven wrong more than you'd think. The point is, pairing is not an issue, as long as the writing is good.

If you're wondering why a certain pairing, listed in the interests or not, isn't here, it's more than likely because we haven't found one that made it passed all our readers, or none of us have found and like a fic of that pairing at all. If there is a pairing you don't see here and you think you know of a fic with that pairing, post it on our rec thread (find it above, under 'volunteer') and we'll check it out. Obviously, there will be quite a lot of Harry/Draco fics and the like, because they are popular pairings. It's hard to find a quality fanfic for a pairing like Michael/Oliver, as it's rarely written. But we'll try.
